Taking a break…

Hello everyone!

It’s been a long time since I’ve come to this space! Much has been happening over here, but today I am writing to let you all know that I am taking a bit of time away from Rebecca Murphy Photography. I am not taking any new bookings while I am on this sabbatical and will be sure to post here when I am ready to do so. Nothing crazy or major to worry about, just finding myself at a place where some time away would do me well. I hope you all have an amazing summer, enjoy every second of it!!!

And the winner is…

Picture # 1!!!

Congrats O family!!!

Second place goes to Picture #6!!

Congrats M Family!!

I have to say you guys really stepped it up this year! I have NEVER seen so many votes come in! I applaud you all for getting the word out among your friends and family, it was a super tight race! (To be honest it was so tight I was giddy every time a vote came in wondering who would pull ahead!!) Thank you again to everyone who took the time to vote and for the many kind words that you sent in along with your pick for the contest!

And last, but certainly not least, our winning voter this year was vote #126, Whitney H! Congratulations Whitney! It’s not everyday that I get to give out prizes and things, so I am very excited! I hope you are all thinking about which prize you want, I’ll be emailing you shortly to set you up!

In other exciting news, I have been working behind the scenes here a bit, mixing things up a little and will be sending out a newsletter next week with all the details! If you’re not already on the list, make sure you sign up so you get the updates!! Have a great weekend everyone!! :)

The Pic of 2010 Contest!

It’s been a bit quiet around here! Winter does that to me. :) I have been holding off until the buzz of the holiday season and the flurry of a new year had died down a bit, but have no fear the Pic of 2010 Contest lives on! I have been pouring over the images from last year, and man there are SO MANY I love! This was not an easy pick at all! Below you will see the 12 photos that just stood out to me, for myriad reasons, but I think after looking them over you’ll see why! Encapsulate: an e-course in freezing time…

My mom made me the BEST Halloween costumes!!

About a year ago I had an idea. It was an idea for a special kind of portrait session for you guys that would expand on what I already offered. Instead of just taking the fun, relaxed portraits that we love I’d also work with you to photographically collect the details of your lives into a type of time capsule. I thought about it for months, but it never seemed to come together and I didn’t get a chance to offer it. But the idea wouldn’t go away. Don’t you hate that?

Well, I can honestly say that now, I am glad it didn’t. The idea kept growing and expanding until a few weeks ago it finally demanded that it be shared. But not just to new portrait clients, to everyone! Introducing Encapsulate: an E-Course in creating your own Family Time Capsule!

I’m so excited about this course, and I can’t wait to share all of the ideas my brain and heart have been cooking up! Creating a time capsule, especially a photographic one, is a fun and easy way to hold on to this chapter of your baby’s childhood, giving them something to look back on when they’re older and wonder what life was like before their memories really formed.

When Joe and I bought this house over the summer my parent’s didn’t wait too long before bringing by the boxes and boxes of stuff they had kept safe for me. I can’t thank them enough for it! Those boxes literally contain my childhood. Like an archeologist I’ve been able to dive deep into my own history, seeing a little girl as she grew up; what she looked like, the things she loved and exploring memories and moments I’d long since forgotten.

You don’t have to save every single item from your baby’s formative years, though, and I’d wager that even if you did make an honest attempt to do that many things would get lost or destroyed through events completely outside your control. People move, basements flood, trees crush the well-preserved contents of attics. And don’t even get me started on what mice can do to stuffed animals and handmade quilts! Making a visual time capsule (with maybe a few smaller keepsakes thrown in) is a simple, fun way to preserve the details that your child would love to have someday, and that only you can save for them.

In the Encapsulate e-course I take you step by step through the process, from what to focus on, to how to take the photos, to what to do with them once you have them. I share photo tips and give plenty of ideas and inspiration so you can create a time capsule unique to your own family. If you’d like to learn more, or sign up, you can click here or visit the E-Courses! tab over on simplyrebecca.com . Even if you don’t think this course is really for you, that’s totally fine, but I urge you to consider this: every childhood is worth remembering, and what you save for your kids now will come to matter more than you can know. I hope you put away a few things, for you, as well as for them.

The Second Time Around | CT Family Photographer

This Fall season has been such a treat because it meant getting to catch up with two of my favorite families from last year!! You might remember this gorgeous little girl from here. She is just as beautiful as she was the first time we met, only this time with a lot more spunk! This kid is hysterical and I had such a good time watching her parents with her; they are clearly enjoying her and I can’t blame them one bit!! Thank you so much guys for a great session, you did awesome yet again!!

Later that same day I got to hang out with this crew again and see just how much they have changed! For sure some growth has happened (do you see the little one!? Not so little anymore gorgeous girl!) but luckily they had all retained their fabulous spirits and we had just as good a time hanging out this year as we did last year. I feel so lucky to have clients that trust me over and over again to capture their family for them, it’s such a privilege and I can’t thank you all enough! C family you guys rocked it and I can’t wait to show you your whole gallery!
